Kindergarten Art: “Walk by Faith”

This year’s Biblical theme at Faith is 2nd Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” What an excellent reminder that while we cannot physically see God, we CAN TRUST IN HIS LOVE, STRENGTH, AND WISDOM.  While we have seen a lot of sad things this year, it’s important to remind ourselves of all the good God has brought to such tough situations. God is still on His throne. If we choose to allow Him, He can deliver us from anything.

For this piece, students were delighted to paint AND print the sole of their shoe. It was a very messy process, but extremely powerful. We discussed the difference between a sole of a shoe and an eternal soul given by God. These tiny footprints were made as a reminder to them and to you; it’s great to talk with God,but our true goal is to actually WALK with Him. Walking with God means we not only ask Him to watch over us, but truly asking Him into our hearts. When we do this, it means we not only love Him, but want to be like Him. We ask Him to teach us to love as He loves, walk as He walks, and see as He sees. While it may not always be the easiest path, if we put our trust in Him, it will be the right one. We pray to always have the faith to choose God’s incredible, eternal love as our source of hope, truth, and life. Frame measures 40.5" x 28".

1st Grade Art: “God Blesses America”

Students have been learning about the history of the American flag. They’ve studied what each color, stripe, and star stand for. We brainstormed a list of words to describe what is felt in our hearts when we see our country’s beautiful flag. The pure innocence of children came rushing through. The children overwhelmingly chose to use the words: “God”, “Love”, and “Faith”. What a testament to what God can do if we allow Him to fill our hearts with His truth.  In a time where the flag is being tested, the first thing Faith’s children did was to put God all over it! It’s a true testament to the fact that we can worry about a lot of things, but God is still on His throne. I pray every time you see this flag, you are reminded to turn every worry into a prayer and remember, GOD HAS GOT THIS!

To create the piece, students used red, white, and blue acrylic paint to add color to popsicle sticks. Once dry, students used lines, shapes, patterns, and words to design and decorate several individual sticks. The most powerful part was to see the looks on their faces as we worked to piece it together. When we work together, as a team, beautiful things can be accomplished. While we worked, students were reminded how incredibly blessed we are to live in a country that has the freedom to choose and praise God’s amazing love and grace. If we trust in Him as our nation’s eternal leader, we cannot fail. Frame measures 26" x 20".

2nd Grade Art Piece 1 (Bundick): “Beautiful Blossoms"

Second grade students were presented with three project ideas for the gala. They were so eager to try each of them, we ended up creating a couple of all three!!! Children are such amazing representations of the creative power that happens when two or more are gathered in His name.

Piece 1 - “Beautiful Blossoms” God will forever be the universe’s greatest artist. Made in His image, that creativity flows through us with the Holy Spirit. God has blessed us with the power to use His creations as inspirations for our own. For this project, Mrs. Bundick's students explored examples of God’s intricate use of monochromatic and analogous colors in flowers. From there, they used liquid watercolor and water to explore using a wet on wet and wet on dry technique to mix, blend, and paint monochromatic and analogous colors right on the paper. Once the pages were dry, students traced and hand cut each and every petal. Then, they worked together to find shades and pieces that would accentuate the textures and colors on each. These flowers are a representation of the diverse beauty God blessed each of us with. Alone, we are beautifully and wonderfully made to be uniquely ourselves, but together, we become even more magnificent. Frame measures 24.5" x 20.5".

2nd Grade Art Piece 3 (Bundick): “Beautiful Birch Trees”

Second grade students were presented with three project ideas for the gala. They were so eager to try each of them, we ended up creating a couple of all three!!! Children are such amazing representations of the creative power that happens when two or more are gathered in His name.

Piece 3 - "Beautiful Birch Trees"

These birch tree scenes were created using masking tape, liquid watercolor, a mix of water and bleach spray, salt, and black crayon. The children’s first task was to take strips of tape and press and remove them from our clothing 3 times. This process removed some of the stickiness of the tape.  We compared this process to what sin can do to us.  We were created to stick closely to God, but as we are exposed to sin in our world, that stickiness can start to fade away. Next, students painted a light coat of water across their page. Then, it was time to add liquid watercolor. Students loved exploring the ways the colors mixed and blended. The next step was to gently mist the paper with the water/bleach solution. As we sprayed and watched the areas become white, we discussed how God is the only one who can wash us clean from sin and death. Finally, Mrs. Bundick's students used salt to create starbursts of color. This last step reminds us, just when we think we are done, we’ve only just begun. God can make something even more extraordinary come out of something that is already beautiful.

2nd Grade Art Pieces 5 & 6 (Bundick): “Eagle Power"

Second grade students were presented with three project ideas for the gala. They were so eager to try each of them, we ended up creating a couple of all three!!! Children are such amazing representations of the creative power that happens when two or more are gathered in His name.

Pieces 5 & 6 (Sold as a Pair) - “Eagle Power”

This collaborative piece was created by students choosing a favorite color of acrylic paint and using a large brush to stroke the paint in a variety of directions across the page. As each color was added, Mrs. Bundick's students were able to see how the page changed and became even more interesting, unique, diverse, and colorful. Students then chose a silhouette of a flying eagle to remind us of the Isaiah 40:31 - “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Let these paintings be a reminder that you can do anything with God.

3rd Grade Art: “ Pieces of Colorado”

Faith’s 3rd graders have been learning about analogous and monochromatic color combinations. The simple blessing of color is one of God’s greatest gifts.  Just as He breathes life into us, He can also help us breathe life into our art through color. Students working on this piece focused on tapping into the creative Holy Spirit God has given each of us. Children used their “artistic eyes” to choose, cut, splice, and paste pictures, textures, and designs from magazines to create this colorful, collaborative Colorado flag. As they added each tiny piece, students were reminded of the magnitude of God’s creativity. He created every single image we cut! The sheer number of lines, colors, textures, shapes, dimension, and beings….It’s mind blowing! The coolest part is that He invites us to use His amazing creations for His glory. As you look at this piece, let it remind you of all the amazing things God has created just for us. Thank Him for the tender loving care He took to make our world a beautiful place. If you look closely, you will find many hidden gems (both literally and figuratively) hiding within this piece; images of fruits, mountains, animals, clouds, bodies of water, flowers and many more. What do you see? Frame measures 27.5" x 21".

4th Grade Art Piece 1: “Better Together”

4th grade has been learning about the power of texture and design. God blessed us with the ability to create in order to make statements for His glory. Beautiful things can be used to draw peoples’ attention for good or bad. Our hope is these copper mosaics not only capture the attention of viewers with their beauty, but also share the love of Christ.

When creating this piece, students were asked to use simple lines, patterns, shapes, items from nature, and the symbol of the cross to sketch a 4”x4” design. As they sketched, students were reminded, God created each of us uniquely by hand. He didn’t just copy and repeat. Can you imagine how infinite His wisdom and love must be to accomplish such a task?!!! God provides each of us with not only individual physical traits, but also social and emotional gifts and talents. One of the trickiest parts for students completing this task was learning to center their sketch, especially on such a small piece of paper. While centering takes time and planning, if you are careful to draw and place your sketch correctly, the result is more balanced. We related this process to our walk with God. We can choose to rush our relationship with God by only investing a bit of time and attention.  This will produce an unbalanced result OR we can give Him our full heart and attention and find balance. It is then that we can really make an impact.

Once satisfied with their design, students gently centered their 4”x4” sketch over a  4”x 4” copper tile and  taped it to a soft rubber block. Students then used an embossing tool to transfer the design to the copper. Once transferred, it was time to finesse. Students retraced and embellished their tile to their liking. Many added intricate details and borders to make their design complete. We discussed how each tile was uniquely made just as God designed us. While all beautiful set apart, when pieced together, they become even more spectacular. This process provided the opportunity for students to visualize the tremendous impact we can make when we work together for God’s glory. Frame measures 27.5" x 21".
